Goin' Fishin'

When I teach my students how to write essays, I always tell them they want a "hook" at the beginning of their introductions. They have to grab their readers and pull 'em right into that essay, no matter how poorly written, littered with "theres" instead of "theirs," it happens to be.

Today, I am taking my own advice. I lured you in with the promise of pretty pictures (the first outfit) in order to show you what I'm really wearing today. Haha! Look at me! I'm so tricky! What a good fisherwoman I make. The cherry on top? The vest I'm wearing in the "real" pictures is something much like what a fisherman would wear. Don't you just love happy coincidences? Me too.

Oh, and random thought (because I never have those...ahem): as I walked out of the x-ray place today, I walked past a man who had clearly just finished smoking thirteen packs of cigarettes, and he stunk to high heaven. Do you know I actually waited until I passed him before I coughed? When I realized what I had done, I mentally rebuked myself. Why on earth was I at all concerned about HIS feelings? Seriously, that turd bucket was polluting my airways (and his) with junk I am highly allergic to, and I was the one being cordial about not coughing so as not to offend him? Well, never again, my friends. Never again. Cherry on top? I was just exiting the building from a SINUS x-ray, which clearly shows how royally screwed up my face is. And here I am all worried about this joker's feelings. Stroke my narcissism and make me feel a little better here. Does anyone else do this? Avoid offending someone else who's actually in the wrong?

Now, here is today's outfit wrapped up in terrible selfies.
Forgive me.

In all honesty, I really wanted you to see my elephant necklace.
I got it at Target just before Christmas.
The tree necklace came with it :)

Also, please admire my new shoes from Sole Society.
I decided to head the UPS guy off at the pass,
and then we had a nice little chat about all of this stupid snow.

  1. Funny you should mention offending smokers! I complained the other day to a supervisor in my office that the smokers are congregating right by the door, when they are supposed to be like 20 feet away. I HATE having to walk through the cloud of smoke, and they are very specifically breaking the rules. I asked if she could send out a reminder email about the smoking location policy. She kind of balked and said she didn't want to offend them, because it's a sensitive subject. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I was so annoyed. I always cough as loudly as I can and give them dirty looks when I walk past. Because I'm kind of a jerk when I want to be.

Oh, and I like your elephant necklace. I bought one from F21 a few months ago. I love it, but the "silver" is wearing off, and the bronze color is showing through. I should have painted it with clear nail polish or something. Oh well, it was about $2!

  2. I really love your real outfit! I want that necklace for sure. I have obsession with elephants. Ok, maybe not an obsession. But I love them. Especially when it comes to baby stuff. My poor future chilren... And your skin, hair, and makeup are friggen perfect in those top photos.

Don't EVEN get me started on smokers...

  3. I first thought you paired your new shoes with the fisherman vest. I was going to try to figure out some way to politely tell you that you're in the wrong, and that the two don't go together. No, but seriously, I think good people are the ones who are considerate of others, regardless of who is at fault. I often find myself saying "whoops, sorry!" when someone gets in my way. All I want to do is yell "NO I'm not sorry!"

Interestingly enough, I consistently have a few students who argue in their ethics essay that our campus should be entirely smoke-free because of the harm it causes non-smokers. One student once wrote in her counter-argument something along the lines of: "Some might think there should be a designated smoking zone, but that would have to be on the edge of campus, where students don't go. But really, this is pointless because the smoke would travel through the air, get to non-smokers, and cause the harm we're trying to avoid in the first place. So no, designated smoking zones on campus are also immoral. You can smoke in your car or in your house. Or you can just not smoke." anyway. that was a pointless story. happy Friday :)

  4. I´d do that too or worse cover my nose with a handkerchief because cigarette smell is a pet peeve of mine! On a lighter note, I´m envious of your flats especially the gold one. ;)

  5. I sorta forgot about everything I was going to say in this comment once I saw those shoes. OOOOOOOHHHHH pretty =)

Oh right, and yeah, I am guilty of not wanting to offend people, especially when they are strangers. I'm usually like you and think about that after the fact. Love both of your outfits here!

  7. I do the same thing! I love to be outside and love our little balcony on our apartment, but the downstairs neighbors smoke and I'm super duper allergic to cigarette smoke. So every time they come out to smoke I run inside and shut the door really quickly to hide my asthma attack so they don't get offended.

Also I want your entire wardrobe.

  8. Danielle, the outfit at the top with the peach sweater and gold flats might be one of my most favorite outfits of yours. It's so simple, but you look straight out of a magazine, seriously. Please never stop being so beautiful.

  9. I love that color of sweater on you! Light colors are definitely your signature colors. If you can have more than one that is. Those little red flats are so adorable! I can't wait to see how you style them.

I think that was mighty big of you to wait to cough. I do the same thing because I'm constantly worried about other people's feelings and such. Sometimes, it's good to be selfish for a brief moment, especially when it's something that gross. Good on ya for being the bigger person.

  10. I love that pink sweater and the pinkish necklace. So cute together! And I love the shoes you have on in your selfie. They are so.darn.pretty.

You were so nice to wait to cough :)
