Black and Tan

The air "broke" in all of our schools yesterday. You know a building is hot when you feel as if you're getting a facial, for the entire work day, just for breathing, just for existing. Lucky me, my grad class meets in another one of the high schools for four hours every Tuesday. Not only did I suffer through eight hours of inner thigh sweat at my school, but I also experienced four additional hours of dewy disgustingness.

Today, I prepared for the heat wave. Of course, if a freak chill sweeps the building, I have a denim jacket to save me from the cold. Does anyone else feel like the first of September should automatically mean cooler temperatures? For reasons unbeknownst to me, my brain thinks September signals a drop in temperature, but clearly Mother Nature disagrees.

Oh, and it appears we will close on our house sooner than expected. The new closing date is September 19th, and we can begin moving in by September 23rd. Since another cockroach crawled up out of the sink at me two days ago, I cannot express my excitement over leaving behind the 800 who surely plan to follow the little bugger. Did you know that a cockroach allergy is an actual thing? I read about it on the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology site. Yep, it's a thing.

  1. Oh no, that's terrible about the air going out, yesterday was hot and muggy, yuck! But you seem totally prepared today in this adorable outfit! I always wear an extra layer because sometimes the AC is too chilly during the day. But it always shuts off the minute students are dismissed, so for the next few hours doing work in my room I take off the extra layers and switch to the flipflops I keep in my cabinet haha.

  2. Yes! September SHOULD mean that the temperature drops automatically. I have been checking the 10-day forecast regularly in hopes that fall weather is near...but it's not. You still manage to look cute though! I just look sweaty and tired. Haha.

  3. Oh my goodness, that brings me back to grade school- mine was an older building with no AC, so it would be sweltering when we'd first go back to school and at the end of the year! The only room that had AC was the computer room! haha we all loved going to computer class on a hot day :) We've had temps in the 80's this week, but I saw 50's in the extended forecast! I still don't know if I'm ready for Fall yet, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it once it actually feels like it outside!

  4. Yes, roaches are an allergy, and they tested my daughter for it even though we do NOT have roaches in our home. They just tested her for a bunch of stuff because she has a peanut allergy and hayfever. So we found out she's also allergic to tree nuts and latex, woo hoo. I wanted to offer some advice though. Before you move all your stuff into your new, roach-free home, please take it somewhere and bugbomb the heck out of it. Spray underneath and behind appliances that you take with you. Spray everything. Please, or you will bring those nasty little suckers with you. I speak from experience. We lived in Florida before moving back to Virginia, and everyone--everyone--in Florida has roaches. They are rampant and everyone just hires exterminators. We were careful, but not careful enough. Fortunately we did not have too many and were able to get rid of them, but you have no idea how horrible it was to go put my baby down in her bed and see a roach crawling along the baseboard in her room UPSTAIRS. I literally spent her nap sitting outside her open door watching for it. I hope the move goes great and I really hope they get your ac fixed in the schools!!!

  5. Ugggghhh! I am so grateful that I live in an area where cockroaches do not tend to exist. Whenever I visit my friend in AZ, I'm so nervous that one will crawl up out of the shower and I will probably scream and panic and injure myself terribly. And then my friend and her husband will break down the bathroom door and I'll be passed out from either fear of the cockroach or hitting my head on the tub, and it will be so embarrassing. Anyway, my point is HOORAY for the new house!

  6. Oh gosh, cockroaches. They are the absolute worst pest. Why must they be so large and disgusting?? It's always me who finds them too. In the silverware drawer, in a bottom corner cabinet, behind the toilet, crawling down the shower when all I can do is hope it goes slowly enough for me to escape before it makes its way towards me mid-pee. Eww. So glad you'll be moving soon!

Oh man, hot classrooms are the worst!! Especially when you're stuck in a classroom for hours and hours. I'm the same way when September comes although it'll stay hot here well into October. I should be enjoying the heat while I have it but all this new warm clothing shopping is making me crave colder weather.

  7. GROSS ROACHES. Nope. Nope nope nope. Thank goodness for getting a new house!! And you're not the only one who forgets that Sept 1 doesn't automatically mean fall temps. It was near 90 here earlier this past week - gross. Luckily, my office is air conditioned, but it may be a little bit toooo air conditioned. I froze my butt off because I was dressed for the 90 degree heat! :( I love this outfit, by the way. Black and tan is an all-time favorite combo of mine!
