Trunks up to my favorite animals

Pardon that little tuft of hair that's escaping the rest of my bangs. New hair keeps coming in, so I continually have this awkward phase where I these little sprites of bangs make me look as if I had to remove gum from my hair with scissors. Let's just call them endearing and move on, shall we?

Today is a snow day. Yahoo? At this point, I have resigned myself to the fact we will be celebrating the fourth of July together at school. I kid. Sort of. I guess wearing this elephant scarf yesterday was good luck (depending on how you look at it, of course)? However, the elephants' trunks are not up, and someone from India once told me that elephants with their trunks up are considered good luck. Since I love elephants (I am currently looking at four different elephants in my room--a figurine, a humidifier, and two lamps), I will not argue with such kind words about them. I should probably fact check, but why would I run the risk of disappointing myself?

My other favorite animal? The prairie dog. I find them wildly amusing, especially with those little heads that just pop up periodically. I hand-fed them at a zoo in Arizona several years ago, and it may have completed my life. About six years ago, they were renovating the prairie dog exhibit in Baltimore (near me), and prairie dogs started escaping! They were climbing walls and burrowing out. The zoo workers had to scoop them up with nets and put them back into their habitat. They had one little bugger surrounded, and he decided to make his way back into the habitat instead of subjecting himself to the swarm of zoo workers. I really wish I visited the zoo that day; I may or may not have scooped up a prairie dog to take home in my purse. I would have named it Houdini because who doesn't want an escape artist for a pet? Here's the article (which is hilariously written, by the way).

I apologize that the lighting leaves a bit to be desired. Jeff argued that the lighting was best here, while I argued for the opposite side, and I think we have another episode of "The Wife Was Right" set to air today.

The Look:
Cardigan: Forever 21 (a student remarked, "nice white and gold outfit today," and I laughed pretty hard. Kids are so witty.)
Scarf: Gift from my sister-in-law :)
Chambray (actually short sleeves): J.Crew Factory
Jeans: Gap maternity
Flats: Jessica Simpson (these bad boys are old)

  1. This is an adorable outfit, and looks so comfortable! There have been a lot of "white and gold" comments at work lately anytime someone wears black and blue. We have a snow day today too! It's only our second of the school year, though we've had much more delays and early dismissals than usual.

  3. I've almost bought that scarf maybe twenty times now. Seriously. I can't get enough of elephants. Or bears. Or giraffes. Or really pretty much any animal. Also, I like that you like the prairie dog. Did you know that they are keystone species? And endangered? If they go bye bye forever, 150 species who rely on them will also go bye bye. So let's save the prairie dogs! For everyone's sake! (And then when they are no longer endangered, you can have one for yourself!)

  4. See, this is why I love you! Cute outfit, ridiculous animal stories. What more could a reader ask for? I love the scarf, and elephants in general. Have we talked about this? Anyway, I have elephant figurines that my dad got me in Africa and India when I was little, and then it kind of turned into a traveling tradition, so I try to buy one whenever I am in a different country. Easy enough in some places, but my recent vacations to the Caribbean have not been as successful! And I'm doing the baby's room in safari animals, with a heavy emphasis on elephants and giraffes. There was an elephant silhouette crib sheet that I really wanted, but it went out of stock - I should have just bought it!

Prairie Dogs - so funny. I have to tell you that one of the teams my high school played against were from a town called "Pretty Prairie" and their mascot was the bulldog, but they referred to themselves just as dogs. But I always thought of them as the Pretty "prairie dogs," because isn't that way better??

  6. Oh goodness, isn't it crazy to think a picture of a dress made national news?? Crazy that we all saw different colors too. I was sure it was white and gold, like your outfit. Gosh I can't wait to see pictures of your nursery. I bet it'll be all animal themed and adorable.
