Shout Out

I often forget that students follow me into this corner of the internet. Luckily (or not?), I write here pretty much the same way I talk in class with them. (If they did not silently stalk me here, then they would verify the veracity of that statement.) Yesterday, I told you I would not wear white pants so as not to explode one of my student's heads. She tweeted that post before class today and then proceeded to make me laugh so hard my cheeks hurt. Everyone accused her of wearing white pants. She used the enormous pad of post-it notes to demonstrate the difference between the "champagne" color of her pants and the whiteness of the post-it notes. If you're reading this, my dear students, let me tell you and the internet how much you brighten my day.  I look forward to every class period with you all, especially you, fifth period and all of my style twins.

Also, I would apologize for telling you all about the article I read that claimed farting extends a person's life. However, science is relevant, especially when it's funny and means your parents can "live forever" as I told you. Be sure to sneak your parents some cabbage and broccoli tonight. The next time you see your grandparents, sneak them some cabbage and broccoli, too.

I do, however, apologize to everyone for the UGLY color of my living room walls. The previous owners decided this putrid color would look good...on every wall.  Granted, they made a lot of other "design" choices that leave me feeling puzzled, so I can't be too surprised. Allow yourself to be distracted by the pretty flowers on my dress.

The Look:
Dress: PinkBlush Maternity
Cardigan: Old Navy
Scarf: Made by my momma (of course)
Boots: Steve Madden

Lumberjack in a Skirt

Today, I decided to try something unusual for me. I mixed flannel and a swooshy skirt. It just felt right, and the best part? I was ridiculously comfortable all day...except when my tights gave me a wicked wedgie. I wasn't so comfortable then.

Anyway, I have a few comments to make. I know what you're thinking: when don't you have commentary to share, Danielle? This is my space (not to be confused with the antiquated social media site), so I can comment all I wish. Okay, now that that business is aside, indulge me.

1. If a person works in customer service, shouldn't that person NOT be a miserable human being? Typically, I'm an easygoing chick, but mess with Momma dukes, and I put up my dukes. The lady was so nasty that she made some rude remark as my Mom walked away. I heard her, turned around, and said, "Usually, an employee waits until the customer is out of earshot to make a rude remark." I added some acrimonious filler, which I will not share here. Ahem. Anyway, don't work in customer service if you're an a-hole. Don't they put that requirement on the application?

2. Mom complained about the nasty ladies to one of the cashiers who is always ridiculously nice to us. He has such a bright demeanor that I just want to clone him and hire his duplicates to do the job those wenches couldn't do. Anyway, he called over the manager to tell her. Well, she was certainly no cup of sunshine either. And her "top knot" looked like an alien infestation. Horrific. She chastised this employee in front of us for telling her this information in front of us. Is anyone else recognizing the irony here? Soooo, you're doing the very same thing that you're yelling at your employee for doing?

3. I was walking past a mannequin when something caught my eye. I turned around and what did I see in between the mannequin's fingers? A DIRTY Q-TIP. For serious, people? Double eww. How filthy mcnasty can you possibly be to wedge your earwax soaked q-tip in between a poor, defenseless mannequin's fingers? Blech.

4. This comment is completely unrelated to Kohl's. While I was driving to work, my earring backing fell out. I have NO idea how it happened, but it happened. Obviously, I did not want to take out my earrings for fear of losing them all together. My solution? Pop the eraser off of a mechanical pencil in my car and use it as a backing. It worked all day. Just call me MacGyver.

Anyway, I tell you this information because Mom took my pictures at Kohl's. A girl has to do what a girl has to do. Mom frowned about taking my picture with the clothes in the background; I felt that you should know that information. Also, Mom made this scarf because she's sweet and talented.

Paisley Maxi Skirt

So, I chose this hidden spot by the deck steps for pictures because the "neighbor" down the hill was staring at me while I set up my tripod. It weirded me out, so I chose a spot that she (or was it a he?) couldn't see. As a result, my boots suffered from the wet ground more than they would have in my usual spot.
Dang creepers.

I liked this shirt because I thought the back buttons were cool; however, they should come with a disclaimer. This morning before I left for work, I reached into the top of the coat closet for a pair of gloves. When I  reached up, one of my buttons unbuttoned itself! I was impressed with my one-handed buttoning ability. Maybe I can enter a circus with that act?

I love maxi skirts. They're comfortable, they look lovely, and they do not require me to shave my legs. Oh, my poor husband. I especially like this one because it's comprised of so many colors that it offers me lots of options for tops!

You know, I feel like sinus headaches should come with complimentary bruises. My face hurts as if someone punched me in the cheekbone, but no one actually slugged me across the face. People should be able to see how much my face hurts without my saying "my face hurts" and hearing "well, it's killing me." Oh, please. Don't quit your day job.  However, I'm eating gluten-free animal cookies. They kind of make up for face pain. Kind of. If only sugar cured pain instead of inducing diabetes, I would forever feel like a million bucks. Yeah, I should be working out to feel better, but it's so much easier to just lift a few giraffe-shaped cookies to my mouth.

Leather Coat: Wilson's Leather (got it for $45 on Black Friday!)
(I like this one in Bordeaux--$40 from Target)
Top: Forever21 (this $20 navy-aqua one is really cute! It also buttons up the back.)
Skirt: NY & Co. (exact one for $16.48--a steal!)
Boots: Steve Madden (exact ones for $99)

Edit: Since I was at the doctor and couldn't post what I actually wore on Wednesday, I linked up Monday's outfit with The Pleated Poppy.

Highlighter Legs

I made a terrible, no good, very bad mistake. I cut my own bangs. By cut my own bangs, I mean I botched them all to hell. As a result, I ended up at a hairdresser near me because I needed someone else to salvage them. For all of my YouTube video watching, I still killed them. Good grief.

In addition, I cannot successfully sport ombre hair. Maybe it could look good on me, but when I look in the mirror, I find I'm staring at my roots, my horrifically overgrown roots. I think I'm too obsessive compulsive for the ombre look, so the stylist put a "glaze" on my hair. (Recently, I've become too cheap for highlights.)

I'm digging it...for now. I do change my hair as often as some people change their underwear. (Some very dirty people, I suppose.)

On with scheduled programming...

Please meet the highlighters on my legs.

They look much tamer on camera than in person.

Sweater & Pants: Gap ($44 for both! Thank you, black friday.)
Boots: Steve Madden
Jacket: Wilson's leather ($41 down from $180)
Necklace: The Limited ($10, I think)

Please enjoy this picture of our pitiful pup, Squirt, and part of Jeff's pajama pants, which match my new gingham shirt. BAM.

I bought a boy's shirt.

Before I show you today's outfit, allow me to show you today's purchase, a boy's shirt. Yes, I plan to wear it. Since my top half is built like a twelve-year-old boy, this shirt fits quite perfectly. I am not letting you see the bottom of it because I'm not wearing pants. I'm sorry that you know that information now, but I felt it was important to let you know. Rest assured that the hemline reaches past my behind. AWESOME. I find a lot of women's shirts are too short. I really am built like a twelve-year-old boy.

Also, this top was $12.99 at Target. (It's a size "large.")

I originally wanted this shirt from J.Crew, but they didn't really have my perfect size, and it was  $34.50 (even if I got 30% off, it'd still be more than I'd want to spend). As a result, I said no.

Tell me you're proud. I need to hear it (er, read it?). My mom said, "that's my savvy little shopper!" Mommy loves me.

Without further ado, here is today's outfit, which was mighty comfortable. Don't ask me why I forgot to remove my sunglasses. Just start singing, "I wear my suuuunglasses at night" in your head, and all will be well. Unless you kill cats when you sing. In that case, all will not be well.
I love this coat because the liner is thick and so soft. Can you believe I found it for $20 at Forever 21? Woot woot.

Top: Old Navy (size small)
Scarf: Friend brought it to me from India! I love it.
Mustard-colored pants: Target (size 5)
Boots: Steve Madden (last year)

Do you find clothes in unexpected places? Do tell.

Oh, and Happy Early Turkey Day! :)
