Far Out Friday

After I finished getting ready this morning, I walked into the living room and asked my husband, "Do I look like I belong in the 70s? Should we call it Disco Friday?" A few moments later he responded with, "Far Out Friday." He had me at alliteration. One of the many reasons I married that guy.

Also, I would like to rename this hairstyle, "So Easy a Danielle Could Do It." The sock bun? Horrible mess that ended in the sacrifice of far too many socks. The modified sock bun that involves a pre made mesh thing, which does not include the maiming of innocent socks? Better...as long as my hair is wet. Otherwise, with dry hair, I end up with uncovered sections of the pseudo sock thing. And alfalfa sprouts. So uncomely. FINALLY, I found a bun that I can do when I wake up late with curly hair frizzing out farther than I can extend my arms. It's perfect for women without really thick hair.

Yesterday, while perusing our good friend, Bloglovin', I saw a post by  Kate (who's going to be a mommy soon!), and I just love Kate. I have never met her in real life, but she seems sincerely sweet, and girlfriend knows how to do hair. The specific hairstyle I chose (of the three she demonstrates) is The Fancy Bun. I didn't pull out the two pieces of hair because, well, I felt that part made it fancy, and I didn't feel fancy this morning. I did, however, feel "far out." (My hair also felt far out. Thankfully, Kate's little tutorial fixed me right up.)

Pardon the awful quality. It's raining cats and dogs out there.

The Outfit:
Shirt: Old Navy
Sleeveless Cardigan: Gap Outlet
Necklace: The Limited
Bag: Kenneth Cole Reaction via Boscov's
Pants: J Brand via Marshall's

P.S. The hairstyle involves only a hair elastic and bobby pins. No need for socks or mesh or other complicated things.

Black Maxi Comfort

This week, prepare for a lot of talk about the wedding we attended this weekend.
It.was.beautiful.
We made the 4-5 hour trek to New York for our friends' wedding, and we couldn't have had more fun!
Everyone introduced themselves, so we felt incredibly welcome as "the Marylanders" at the New York wedding. The food was delicious, and they even accommodated my cantankerous digestive system. I ate steak, asparagus, carrots, sushi, gelato, strawberries, honeydew, and pineapple.
During our past two visits to NY, our friends took us to this Italian restaurant with gluten-free pizza that makes me want to smack a dolphin it's so scrumptious.

The Look:

Sleeveless Cardigan: Gap (last year)
Maxi Dress: Boscov's (last year)
Sandals: J.Lo via Kohl's
Belt: Target

The Details:

Occasion: What I wore to breakfast (mmmm...broccoli and cheese egg white omelet) with a big group of people from the wedding. (We walked to the diner from our hotel, so no crazy stilettos...as if I'd wear them anywhere.)  I also needed to play passenger for 4-5 hours in the car, so comfort was paramount. And everyone knows maxi dresses/skirts are glorified pajamas.

When: 10:30a.m.-bedtime

Where: A little bit of indoors and a little bit of outdoors

Comfort Rating: 9 (only because I had to loosen the belt during the car ride)

Comments: I needed the belt for two reasons. One, it gave me some shape. Two, it added a bit of color. I finally learned how to knot a belt. I have arrived, ladies and gents.

Restyling Options: For work, I'd throw on a printed scarf and solid color cardigan with sleeves because I don't like going sleeveless at work. If it were a bit cooler, I think a jean jacket is the perfect addition. As always, if my hair weren't in a high bun, I'd try a fedora. With the high bun, I could tie a bandana around my head :)

"I'm wearing my picture day shirt."

I had a conversation with one of my male colleagues. It went something like this:

Me: "I really like your shirt."
Colleague: "You know what shirt this is?"
Me: "Mmm?"
Colleague: "This is my picture day shirt. I wear this shirt once a year every year, only on picture day. It makes my wife so angry! All of my pictures are the same every year because I wear the same shirt every time. Sometimes, I can't help myself and I wear it more than once a year."
I love this colleague, and what a genius idea.

Today's outfit was undeniably comfortable. I'm also still in love with my hair. What a winning combination.

Sleeveless cardigan: Gap
Braided brown belt: Francescas
Striped dress (which is actually long enough for work!): Old Navy
Tights: The black abyss under my bed
Boots: Franco Sarto (at Marshalls)

Can you believe it's only Tuesday? How did that happen? Where do I send my letter of complaint?

Anyway, what's your favorite thing to wear on picture day? :)
