Repurposed or Reclalimed

Yesterday, I told you that I had to rethink some of my summer clothes so that I could repurpose them for colder weather. In fact, I dubbed today's Trendy Tuesday "Repurposed or Reclaimed" in honor of my decision to go all MacGyver on my wardrobe. This dress is one of my repurposed summer items. The other day, I felt angry about stores selling so many sleeveless dresses in the winter. I can feel less angry now that I know how to circumvent this frustration. Look at me being all resourceful.

Does anyone else have an exorbitant amount of "thin" sweaters that really function very little in the winter? Essentially, they are long-sleeved tees made of sweater material. I decided to force function out of this sweater by layering it under this dress. Since the dress is too short for work, I paired it with leggings, which turned it into a tunic. Now THAT is how you wear leggings. As long as your bum is covered, you can wear leggings in public. You may not, however, enter society wearing sweatpants tucked into Uggs. In no way can you remedy that situation. It's like the ugly, unfortunate, dyspeptic sister of MC Hammer's parachute pants.

Anyway, now that I am done insulting sweatpants tucked into Uggs, allow me to show you yesterday's outfit today (spoiler: I showed you today's outfit yesterday...oops?), which you can see so clearly in these photos of the most beautiful quality.

The Look:
Dress: via thredUP // similar from F21
Sweater: Mossimo via Target // F21 options
Scarf: Francesca's
Leggings (which are very dark jean material): New York & Co.
Booties: Crown Vintage via DSW // exact
Earrings: Target

I wore the dress this way in the summer:

I guess I really do love this sweater? I feel a bit terrible about calling it a tee made of sweater material.

Trendy Tuesday: Animal Print (and link up your red & pink!)

For those of you who are new to these parts, my co-teacher inspired what we've dubbed Trendy Tuesdays at the high school where I teach. Every week, a different staff member chooses the theme for the following week. Throughout the day, people snap small group shots of them wearing their themed outfits. At the end of the day, we gather in or around the front office for a bigger group shot. (We tag it on Instagram and Facebook!)

Every Monday, I send an e-mail to all of the staff members announcing the following day's theme. My favorite part? Guys are participating! Students are participating! Guy students are participating! People are walking up to me and asking, "So, what's the next theme?" A colleague stopped me in the copy room today to say, "I have been participating every week, but I just can't get to the front office in time for the group picture. I love that I have one day of the week where I don't have to think as hard about what I'm going to wear." Note: I also taught a math teacher what the word sartorial means. Proud English teacher moment right there.

You guys, I love it. See, fashion isn't so silly or vain. It's helping to unify more people in my building. What can be wrong with that? On a somewhat related note, a lot of my colleagues (and even students) know about this here blog. I know many bloggers hide their blogs from people they know in real life, for good reasons, but not this girl. Before I really started my blog, people at work commented on my clothes frequently, so an English teacher who loves fashion writing a blog about what she wears? Not entirely surprising. I actually sat down with one of my juniors the other day to give her the basics of starting a blog, specifically a fashion blog, which was one of the highlights of my year! I hope one day to be introducing you to her on here.

This week, my co-teacher picked animal print. (Sidebar: My co-teacher started the "trend," but I've adopted the responsibility of getting out the word and nominating people to choose the theme.) I really need to get better about telling you all the themes in case you'd like to join us.

In fact, would anyone be interested in knowing the themes in advance (probably Friday of the previous week) and participating in a weekly link up? Let a girl know. Okay, not any girl. Preferably this girl.

Life's a Picnic.

And my shirt just so happens to be the table cloth lying on that picnic table.
Try not to feel jealous.
I may or may not be planning an upcoming outfit inspired by what my niece wore to Thanksgiving dinner. She may or may not be a one year old.

I am thankful for...
* heated seats
* a fridge full of Mom's leftovers
* outfits that look as good on camera as they do in my head
* a husband who never minds driving
* gluten-free apple crisp
* a funny brother who married a great conversationalist
* a niece who keeps us all entertained
* five days off work
Amen.

The Outfit:
Tan Sweater: Mossimo via Target
Flannel Shirt: Old Navy
Coat: Michael Kors (I bought it about six years ago.)
Necklace & Hat: Target
Booties: BCBG
Purse: Kenneth Cole Reaction via Boscov's (definitely bought it for $30 down from $100)
(It looks like I'm thankful for Target, eh?)

Mint Scarf

I wanted to pull together an outfit that would allow me to feature this gorgeous mint scarf that my sister-in-law (hate the in-law part...sounds too formal) gave to me for Christmas

I was inspired by this photo bouncing around on Pinterest.
Source: Happily Grey
(That's the actual source!)

It's much too cold outside to take pictures, and I really haven't been feeling well, so I'd prefer not to exacerbate my condition by posing with frigid Mother Nature. Plus, how fun is my stool that matches my scarf?

P.S. If I were outside, I'd throw on a black leather jacket to complete the look.
 To my dear friend, Amy, if you're reading this, I know you don't like booties, but I hope you like mine :) (When I re-read that statement, it sounded dirty. It's not. I mean my footwear, not my behind.)

I felt badly that you couldn't see my lovely earrings and watch, so I took a quick picture with Photo Booth.

Outfit Deets:
Sweater: Preswick & Moore via Boscov's (exact for $26.99)
Pants: Boscov's (Target's brand is nice, too.)
Earrings: Mod Cloth
Watch: Timex (gift from Momma dukes)
Booties: BCBG (old, but here is a similar pair)
Scarf: Gift from my wonderful sis-in-law :)

I was curious, so I did some research.
I am still trying to determine the credibility of the website, but it's from the UK.
Everything from the UK is valid, right?
