Wish me luck on my cleanse.

I found my perfect floral shirt. Aren't the colors so vibrant and lovely? You're seeing it for the first time here even though I've had it for almost a month. Also, you're seeing proof as to why I should wear sunglasses for all daytime pictures. What's up, squinty?

The end of the school year is winding down quite nicely. My sophomores' speeches are hysterical. On purpose. My juniors' debates started out swimmingly. Their progress this year astonishes me. I just finished writing a letter to my AP classes, which I may share with you next week. (I am almost finished writing a personal note to each student in those classes.) Should I finish writing my exams first? Probably. Whatever. It'll all get done on time. Fear not.

You know what's weird? Being thin and telling people you're going on a cleanse. I don't think that most people understand cleanses serve greater purposes than losing weight. Like recovering from three months of antibiotics and trying to force your system into recovery. I'm essentially trying to hit the restart button on my body. Every damn time I take antibiotics, I get thrush/some crazy yeast overgrowth. What feeds yeast? Sugar. And carbs that turn into sugar if not burned off quickly enough. Now, without a gall bladder, I cannot survive on juice cleanses. My system would revolt and shut down. We can't have that. So, for three days, I shall be eating just vegetables, steamed or raw. Luckily, I've never met a vegetable I didn't like. Wish me luck. I'll probably want a handful of strawberries by lunchtime tomorrow. Who am I kidding? I'll want them by breakfast.

Outfies? Can they be a thing?

Today, you receive crappy iPhone pictures. Some ladies have mastered the art of outfies (do you think I can make that word happen? It's like selfie meets outfit: outfies. Or is it like fetch from Mean Girls; I can't make it happen?) with the iPhone, but I have not. I want to blame it on the terrible apartment lighting, to which the let's-paint-the-walls-ceilings-and-baseboards-all-the-same-color room certainly contributes. Anyway, do you ever love an outfit so much that it must be memorialized in any way possible, no matter how grainy and terrible the photo quality is? Today's outfit might seem like nothing spectacular, but it scored me many compliments. Plus, I felt great wearing it, and who doesn't want to applaud an outfit like that? (Answer: anyone who does not openly and frequently post pictures of him or herself online.)

There's nothing a great scarf, comfortable heels, and a perfectly fitting dress cannot tackle.  Am I right?

Also, if you haven't voted yet for my student, please go here and vote for her to become a style blogger to watch for Teen Vogue!

The Look:
Scarf: Target (last year)
Earrings: Francesca's (recent)
Dress: J.Crew Factory (I got it during a 50% off promotion. It's a comfortable dress with sleeves. Even though I'm not Catholic, I attend a lot of Catholic-type functions, so I love me a dress with sleeves. I believe in respecting the religious building I stand inside, and I know you technically shouldn't have bare shoulders in a Catholic church.)
Shoes: J.Crew Factory Sylvia wedges (which might be the best shoe purchase I've ever made...no lie...and they were 50% off)

Whoa, there I am.

Brief recap: I talked about participating in the Neiman Marcus beauty campaign (too many times, I do believe) here (making friends), here (the itinerary), and here (some things I learned). Anyway, my point of contact e-mailed me a few days ago to let me know that Neiman Marcus announced the campaign and the winners on Facebook and their blog, so I thought you might want to know more about the other winners and go read their brief bios.

Note: they say I'm from the D.C. area, but I do not actually live in D.C. I hail from Maryland, but D.C. is less than an hour from me. It might be the capitol of our nation and all, but it's pretty much a part of Maryland, right? Haha. (I'm better at geography than that; I can assure you. Sort of.) My face might be plastered all over this little corner of the internet, but it is still bizarre to see my face elsewhere in cyberspace.

Moving on, I kind of changed my system for getting pictures for the blog. I used to pick out my outfits on the weekend to prepare for the next week, but our weather (and my classroom) has been so unpredictable that I ended up changing outfits in real life. I want this blog to reflect what I actually wear, so I now have Mom take photos of most outfits after I wear them instead of before. Sure, they might be a tad wrinklier that way, but I also know before I have the pictures taken whether or not the outfit was practical for a full day of teaching/doing whatever I was doing when I wore it.

This outfit was really comfortable, and I just love the color combination. I also wore lime and cobalt last summer. I think that dress inspired my love of lime and cobalt together. Of course, we already know I love cobalt with pretty much anything. Can I now draw your attention to the cut of these pants? They're not skinny pants. Would you like to know how old they are? I will tell you: sixteen years old. My pants are as old as the students I teach. WHEN DID I GET HERE?

At least they haven't disintegrated like one of my dad's shirts. Honest to goodness, my Dad put on a shirt from high school, and half of the sleeve disappeared in a plume of smoke when he tried to put his arm in the armhole. The craziest magic trick I ever did see. If my dad is in his 60s and can still fit into clothes from high school, then I don't see why I can't be almost 30 and still fit into clothes from 8th grade. Combat boots and scrunchy socks aside, some of my adolescent style was classic. (Hey overalls, leggings, and crop tops made a comeback, and those were my wardrobe staples in the days of yore. I was so ahead of the times.)

I smirk at you.

The Look:
Shirt: Target
Cardigan: Target
Belt: Target (whaaaat? I didn't even realize how Target-themed I was!)
Pants: Express via Gabriel Brothers (my favorite place to shop when I visited my grandparents' in Cumberland, MD)
Shoes: Sylvia wedges via J.Crew Factory (seriously, they are so comfortable.)
Earrings: local boutique

I wanted to show you my little earrings. They're so cute and tiny.

Style Swap

Shout out to my girl, Brynn, for providing me inspiration that I so pitifully lacked on Saturday as I sluggishly prepared to leave the apartment. I really liked the colors of Brynn's outfit, so I wore my lime green cardigan again. I guess this little blog-a-roo has shown me a thing or two, particularly which items in my closet happen to rank above the rest. Who would've thought a lime green cardigan could be so versatile? I certainly did not.

I realize that these pictures might deceive you into thinking my pants are black. In fact, they are a dark blue jean, and they feel like soft puppy ears. (Come on, you know what I mean, right?)

Two things before you hang out with my outfit shamelessly copied from Brynn:

1. I think we need to institute a new rule on Facebook/social media: do not tell your "friends" that everyone in your house has "the vomits." I have a pretty legitimate, intense fear of throw up (used to be so bad that just hearing the word made my stomach churn and send me into a terrible shaking fit), so I would greatly appreciate not hearing about how frequently and violently the members of your household are losing their cookies. (Yes, part of the reason I chose to teach high school was because of the better control of bodily functions. Granted, my second year of teaching was accompanied by a puker in my room. I taught outside for a week. Not kidding.)

2. If you want to bring forth a greater possibility of a snow day, then just book the computer lab and plan out the week. Mother Nature will say poo poo to you. Oh well, I have one more day to procrastinate grading. I mean...

The Look:
Cardigan: Target
Blouse: New York and Co.
Belt: Target
Jeans: American Eagle (they're technically jeggings, but I agree with Brynn that the word "jeggings" is stupid.)
Boots: Etienne Aigner via Macy's several years ago
Airplane Necklace: gift from Momma (it's Lauren Conrad...go figure)

I've also worn the cardigan these ways...

If you need a laugh, please meet my face.

On more than one occasion, my students have told me that I should be a stand-up comedian. While I appreciate their kindness, I do not know how fruitful that would be seeing as how only teenagers, an understandably not-so-wealthy lot of humans, would fill the gymnasium. (I say gymnasium because, if I'm being honest with myself, I know that's the best venue I could score.) Of course, I might make just as much.

Other times, while the class quietly works and I charge forth in my daily battle with technology that hates me or begin reading a shamefully, crappily written essay, at least one student's gaze lands on my countenance. I hear muffled giggles, look up, and find one student nudging another and pointing to me. I know something is not on my face because I've checked it in Photo Booth before--what!? Don't you judge me. I say, "what? Can I help you?" And they usually admit that my facial expression elicited their laughter. I can't help having an expressive face. When a student says something outlandishly INSANE, my face tells the story that my words cannot...since I like my job and prefer to keep it. All I've got left is my face. I now know not to ask "what?" I just say, "is my face showing my thoughts again?"

I tell you this story because today's set of pictures features a series of absolute ridiculousness. Fret not. Some of the images are pinnable.

I'll start with the normal ones.

The Look:
Cardigan: Target (a comfy and similar looking one at Asos)
White shirt: Target
Scarf: Gift from husband :) (it's from Asos--similar)
Pants: Exact Stretch Skinny from The Limited (same)
Shoes: TWENTY dollars at DSW (down from $100+) Boom. (similar)

You absolutely needed a close up of this gorgeous scarf.

Here's where shit gets weird. Forgive my language.
Just be glad I usually censor my mouth (er, fingers?) on the blog.

A ballet move?

I was trying to break that stupid thread in my butt pockets.
Mom documented it. Thanks, Mom.

Aaaaaaaaand my personal favorite:
Seriously, I shouldn't be laughing so hard at myself because it's just pathetic, but how can I not?
I look like I'm pooping, but the thread-fighting battle continues.

I'm sorry for the people who wind up here from a link up,
but here I am. I hope I amused you during your stay.

Lime, Gray, and Gold

The Outfit:
Dress: Target (on the $8 rack, of course)
Cardigan: Target
Boots: Steve Madden via DSW
Belt: Came with another dress
Scarf: Made by Momma (who's making me some more colors! YAY!)

Comments:
Put on these tights this morning and realized they were control top. Holy squeeze.

DUDES at work commented on my outfit. One said, in all seriousness, "I'm really liking this color combination. Picking up on the lime in the dress with the lime cardigan. And those boots? My wife is a lover of boots. She'd love those." When a dude compliments your outfit, YOU BLOG IT.

I thought there was some hummus trapped in my scarf, but I can't find it. New name for scarves? Crumb catchers.

Cobalt and Lime

School ends this week, and my brain is at a complete loss for words. I'm lucky I remember to wear shoes to work let alone offer you anything witty for contemplation.

I'll tell you a few things:
1. I love bright colors.
2. Cobalt is my favorite color.
3. Lime might be my second favorite color (either that or yellow)
4. This dress feels like pajamas.

I particularly love it when my hair blows across my face in such a way that it looks like I have a mustache.

Thank you, sun, for making me look so angelic.

Awesome wind.

Dress: Apt. 9 via Kohl's (exact)
