Teacher Style: Yellow Cardigan

I hope Kate is reading today because I know how much she loves this cardigan. I realized that she is not alone. Clearly, I keep reaching for this cardigan more than any other cardigan I own. It finds itself a part of so many outfits. I love its softness and length. Luckily for me, I own the same cardigan in a blue shade as well :)

Now, these looks all feature the yellow cardigan, but you can try similar looks with any colored cardigan. Use that imagination of yours. If you're a teacher, you clearly have one. Don't deny it.

Wow, right? Who would've thought?
Cardigan: Express (so very old like I-bought-it-in-high-school old)
Options: Nordstrom and August Silk (Macy's)

(Oh, look, there's the floral shirt again.)

(I miss this chambray. I sort of wish I could have kept it, but it got way too short.)

Clearly, the yellow cardigan is versatile. It worked with colored bottoms, patterned tops, pendant necklaces, and statement necklaces. Good job, cardigan, you'll never find yourself in the donation pile. May you live forever.

No, I see no dress looks here either. I don't know what's up with that. Hopefully, you'll see it make a reappearance for dress week next week :)

Help out my student because you have a heart.

I do my best to provide you with a title catchy enough that'll lure you here, sometimes under false pretenses. Okay. Maybe not. But it's fun to sound a little dangerous like a man-hating Lifetime movie by saying "under false pretenses." Anyway, let's move on from my creepiness and talk about how you can help out one of my students. (Originally, I was going to write "let's move on from my creepiness and talk about one of my students." I then realized that actually heightened the creepiness.)

Seriously. Move on, Wo.

One of my juniors has a style blog, and gave it the cutest name, too. You'll have to check out her blog to see what I mean. Anyway, she entered a Teen Vogue contest to score a "blogger to watch" feature, and it would be super dee duper if you voted for her! Go here and vote for her by clicking on the heart in the upper left corner of the picture. (You have to hover over the corner in order for the heart to appear.) To see the blog post she entered and read about KFC's chicken corsage (it's a thing), go here. Also, her about me section will melt your heart with its sweetness. (I'm not just saying that because I'm biased as her English teacher.)

Speaking of teaching, I had a slip of the tongue during first period today. I meant to tell my sophomores that they should spitball ideas with the people at their table. Instead, I told them to freeball it. Not at all the same thing. Luckily, they were too clueless, tired, or embarrassed to acknowledge the blunder.

The Look

I also wore the floral shirt this way:

And the cardigan this way...

Oh, and this way...

(The skirt is pretty new, so it hasn't been worn more than once. However, I love the fit AND the pockets, so you'll see it again.)

Why do you build me up, buttercup...

Just to let me down (let me down) with your unpretty pictures? I'll tell you why, sugar pie. I like this outfit so much that, poorly taken pictures and all, I wanted to share it with you. Sure, the outfit might not be amazing, but doesn't that pale yellow just make you smile? Add to that the polka dots and you've got a winning combination.

Yes, I had to have Jeff help me put on my cardigan, but I wore just enough layers to remain comfortable at work. Rewind a moment. Does anyone else suffer from sleeves-too-tight syndrome? Let's get real here, people. I have spindly little arms of which I am fully aware. However, you would think I was trying to squeeze a leg into some of my cardigans. I mean, for whom are they making these sleeves anyway? If even I struggle to stuff my toothpick arms into the armholes, we have a problem, Houston. So, I have to buy cardigans in a size small if I want to wear anything other than just my arms under those sleeves. Of course, the small sleeves fit better, but then my 12-year-old-boy-sized chest just floats under the rest of it. I am not talented enough to make my own cardigans, so suffer I must. Oh, these first world problems of mine.

The Look:
Cardigan: New York & Co.
Oxford: Lauren Conrad via Kohl's
Black Jeans: American Eagle (technically "jeggings," but who likes that word anyway?)
Belt: Target (love me some Target belts)
Boots: b.o.c. via DSW

This look was loosely inspired by this pin.
Obviously, it's still too cold to copy the pin exactly, but I liked the idea
of a yellow cardigan with my polka dot oxford.

I also wore the jeans this way,

and the cardigan this way,

and the oxford this way.

Backstreet's Back, Alright.

I bet you missed me, right?
As you should because I'M.SO.FUN.
and humble.
(And even better in real life.)

So, my best friend got married.
I wore this:
IT HAD POCKETS. WHAAAAAAT?!
One of which held a tissue covered in both the bride's and groom's snot.
If that's not love, then I don't know what is.
(I'll tell you more about it all another day...preferably one that involves more pictures!)

I also finished my monster paper for grad class. Whew, what a relief.

I can officially reenter society.

Since a lot of people complimented today's outfit, I thought I'd share it with ya.
One of my students asked me what was with my hair lately.
I responded, "This is my I-value-sleep-more-than-hair look."
Anyone else have those 'dos? This one has withstood the test of time.
It was my trusty 'do in high school, too.
Gosh, I'm cool.

Aaaaand, you're welcome.

Outfit Details:
Shirt: Express (similar)
Cardigan: NY & Co. (similar)
Pants: NY & Co. (similar)
Shoes: Aerosoles via Marshall's (similar)
Belt: Target

Chambray, Stripes, and Plaid. OH MY!

Thoughtful Thursday

Well, last night, all ready to post a cute outfit for you, I pulled out my computer, and promptly fell asleep. My apologies. However, today's outfit was far cuter. Since I'm dubbing it thoughtful Thursday, I shall show you both outfits.

One of my students helps me file things and just brightens my day after school. Today, she introduced me to wanelo.com. DANGER, WILL ROBINSON! For me, this site is worse (and by worse, I mean more addictive) than Pinterest. It links to things you can buy and shows you what's trending for the day. You can save that item on a wishlist, a gift list, or another list of your creation. You can link right to the retailer's site and buy that item. How.freaking.awesome. And dangerous. Very, very dangerous. Since I'm being thoughtful, I've given the link to you so that your productivity may also come to a screeching halt. Don't say I didn't warn you. (Note: most of the items are extremely well priced!) Dangit, I just showed you that site and lost myself in it for twenty minutes. Good grief.

Today, my thoughtful husband stopped by my work on his way home, chatted with two of my students, and walked me out to my car :) I love it when he does that. I'm sure those kids will brag tomorrow about how they met him.

Meet yesterday's duds:

My face in this picture makes me laugh. It's my, "I'm trying to be mad at you for taking pictures so quickly that they're blurry" face.

My arms are a little awkward, but what are ya going to do?

Allow me to tell you that I would have worn flats with this outfit; however, my legs were tragically hairy, and sleep was more important than shaving. Come on, 5 a.m. is tough. Cut me some slack. Yeah, I could have worn pants, but that would have taken even longer to pick out.
Top: Marshalls
Sleeveless cardigan: So old that I can't remember
Skirt: Target (this summer)
Boots: Macy's (last winter)

Here is today's outfit:

We wanted a picture with the creepers in the background.
I created a neologism. It goes like this: Hindsight (n): the realization your butt looks really good or the too-late realization that your pants/skirt/dress is too tight, sometimes both definitions are appropriate at one time. Today's is neologism brought to you by my hindsight.

Since I passed out on the couch last night, I did not pick out my outfit in advance. Here's what happens when I pick out my outfit in the morning: I stand, like a grunting troll, shoulders all slumped over, in the middle of my closet and grumble, "What do I wearrrrrr?" I spend ten minutes staring into the abyss.

This morning, I said, "Self, snap out of it. Put on the chambray and khaki. Figure out the rest as you blow dry your hair." Genius moment in my sleepy stupor. I realized that I hated the chambray and khaki combination I put together, and the khaki pants just wouldn't go with the yellow sweater I was thinking about pairing with the shirt. I decided on these black pants. Unfortunately, I was running too late to change into a different pair of black pants. These pants hug my behind, but dangit, I've been working out, and my behind looks fine. Now you know the etymology of my neologism. (How do you like those fifty dollar words?) Also, my co-teacher informed me that I didn't look like I had a wedgie, so my pants were not too tight. Had I been drinking something, I would have spit it out at that moment. She's so funny.

Where I found the pieces to my ensemble:
My pants and cardigan are OLD. Like really old. They're from our friend Express.
(I almost donated this cardigan. Crazy, right?)
This chambray top from Old Navy is too short for my liking. Does anyone have a suggestion for one that fits well and is of an appropriate length?
My plaid pants are Rock and Republic for Kohl's.
My necklace was on clearance at Francesca's.

Maybe I'll allow myself to pick out my clothes in the morning more often. Maybe.
