Anchors Away, it's Trendy Tuesday: Nautical or Knot

Welcome to this week's installment of Trendy Tuesday: Nautical or Knot, Stripes will Suffice.
If you visited these parts yesterday, you saw my pink blazer paired with a green skirt, which I planned to wear with today's outfit. This cardigan was slated for yesterday's look. At the last moment, I realized I wanted to make a switch.

I am listening to iTunes radio for the first time. I've been missing out! Move over, Pandora.

Stacks of essays call my name, so I leave you with these few words.

The Look:
Cardigan: New York and Co. (old--similar from Target)
Scarf: Francesca's (similar from Old Navy)
Shirt: Express (old--similar from LL Bean for $25)
Belt: Men's section of Target (similar from American Eagle)
Jeans: Gap Outlet (same shade from Eddie Bauer for $20)
Boots: Ralph Lauren via DSW (similar by Franco Sarto)

Pardon my tag. Also, my hand feels naked when I forget my rings. Jeffery scolds me for it all of the time. It's just that they annoyingly swing around on my finger when it's cold outside.

Let's call this picture "demonic spirit hands" or "COME HUG ME, BLOGLAND," which is actually what I was screaming. Are you running away yet?

I have worn these jeans a lot, but here they are on the blog:

This shirt is part of one of my favorite looks EVER.

YOLO, YLOO, or YOSO? Which one is it?

Three of my students from last year visited me during my planning period today.

One of them said, "So, does YOLO technically have a misplaced modifier in it?"
Me: "As a matter of fact, it does. You do other things (other than living) only once. What it should be is YLOO. You live only once. Unless, of course, you died and someone brought you back to life. Then you lived twice, not once."
Another student: "Oh my gosh. That's so going to be our next inside joke. YLOO. I love it."
And I love teaching. Kids are such fun humans, and it's fascinating to watch their minds grow.

I think "only" might be the most frequently misplaced modifier because it's a one-word modifier versus a phrase. I think someone would notice something out of place with the underlined phrase in the following sentence: Pooping on the living room floor, my dad scolded the dog. Tiny modifiers like only are tricky, little buggers.
(Note: my Dad is the epitome of uncouthness, but even he has boundaries preventing him from defecating on the carpet, which means it's definitely the dog who should be pooping on the living room floor according to that sentence.)

Anyway, it all made me think of the pet peeve speech one student delivered two years ago. He hated on the overuse of YOLO and declared, "YOSO, you all ought to stay original."
Wise words, my delightfully hysterical pupil.

Oh, and I got dressed today for your viewing pleasure.
I really like how the whole look came together, especially the colors.
It was inspired by this pin.
Sometimes, my brain cooperates.

The Outfit:
Boots: Madden Girl (wish I could remember where I bought them)
Pants: 1979 Gap jeans
White oxford: New York and Company
Cardigan: Old Navy (probably should have washed it before wearing it with white because little gray gremlins now cover my shirt.)
Scarf: Target (I sort of wish it was bigger. Bummer.)

I love my brown boots.

Welcome to another shameless dressing room selfie. I'm not entirely sure what selfie isn't somehow linked to shame, but that's a story for another day. Before I got mah hur did tonight, I stopped into LOFT to return a dress.

I exchanged it for this skirt. I love it. I've been looking for a red skirt, and this one fits like a dream. Plus, it was on the clearance rack. Double win for me.

And why do I love my brown boots?
They go with all the things (in my closet)!

I walked into LOFT wearing the following outfit:
I'd like to call this my Robin Hood color scheme. Where are my bow and arrow?
(The pants are hunter green.)

The Outfit & Details:
Cardigan: Old Navy (need more colorrrrs)
Pants: Gap (by far my FAVORITE skinny jeans. I want more. and more. and more.)
Belt: Francesca's
Top: Old Navy
Boots: Franco Sarto (favorite shoe designer) via Marshall's
Necklace: Target

Comments: I really love the colors in this outfit, and people stopped me to throw down some comments at my beautiful booted feet. I originally planned to wear a black silk top with black boots, but I changed my mind this morning. (Yes, I pick out my clothes the night before.) Good change? I think so.

Emerald and Floral

After I buy new clothes, I make it a point to try on each item as a part of three, as-different-as-possible outfits. I thought I'd share two of today's shirts. (I also picked up two others, but my bedroom was wayyyy too hot to continue taking off and putting on clothes. I'll try again tomorrow. Maybe.)
I used gift cards for these two shirts.
The floral one is Lauren Conrad's via Kohl's and the emerald green one is Apt.9 also from Kohl's.

Floral Top

Outfit 1
This skirt has pockets, so I love it. I have yet to wear it (stupid!). Now that I have the perfect shirt for it, I think I'll wear it for Back to School Night on Tuesday. Genius.
This outfit might seem too "spring," but I think some brown boots and a solid color scarf will take it right into cooler weather. It's still in the 80s and 90s, so it's fine or now.

 Outfit 2
Good grief, this outfit is warm. It's perfect for cooler weather. The blazer dresses it up for work. A pair of olive dress pants (in place of these pants) would make it even more work appropriate. However, skinny pants are acceptable at my school. I need a longer, gold pendant necklace to complete the ensemble.

Outfit 3
Perfect for a casual Friday at work.

I think this top would work well with white jeans, maybe with an olive green button up thrown over it.
Any other suggestions?

Emerald Blouse

Outfit 1
Probably my favorite of the three outfits. I just love emerald, black, and white together. Almost as much as I love cobalt, black, and white together. Almost. I'm so wearing this outfit to work when it's not a billion degrees in my classroom.
(I also wore these pants this way.)

 Outfit 2
I've worn this paisley skirt before (here), and I like it with emerald. I could've tucked the shirt, but I decided to create tucked and tied looks with this shirt.

I like this necklace that a friend bought for me, so I decided to wear it a bit like a "bow" tie with this top. Look at me being all clever. Yeah, I went with emerald, black, and white/silver again. What of it?

Feel free to throw some more ideas my way!
Go on and make these shirts worthy of staying in my closet.
Oh, and is anyone else as obsessed with Lauren Conrad's clothing line as I am?

Mrs. Green Jeans (with a little navy and gold)

Today, a student told me that the story I told to explain the importance of research was really good. Then, in all seriousness, he started to clap for me. That was the highlight of my day. Later, a student asked me why I'm not as cool as my brother. That was not the highlight of my day.

I understand that I will never be as cool as my brother is, but I will always be more stylish. I love him, but his style consists of the same Nike hat in at least three different colors.
At least I have one thing going for me. (Though I am guilty of buying the same article of clothing in more than one color. However, I have gotten much better with that problem.)

One teacher told me that her students referred to me as the pretty, stylish, young teacher. Even if I suck at my job, at least I look good sucking at it. Another teacher told me his junior girls were all a twitter about my dark hair. Supposedly, they like the new 'do. Another student asked me if I could be her personal stylist. Needless to say, I was feeling it today. I kicked today's ass despite my not being as cool as my older brother.

How did you own today?

Had today not been a bloated day, I might have tucked in my shirt and sported a belt. However, today was bloat city. No tucking or belting for me. Oh, and no pants without spandex either.

I should probably buy an undershirt shirt that more closely matches the off-white color of this top.

 Shirt: Marshalls (recent--$15)
Navy blazer: Marshalls (recent--$25)
Pants: Gap ($30? I can't remember, but well worth the price!)
Shoes: Target ($15, on sale)

Restyling Idea (for shirt) #1
Tuck in shirt (if I'm not bloated next time)
Wear with khaki circle skirt
Wear with nude heels
Wear with same navy blazer or a red blazer

Restyling Idea (for blazer) #2:
Wear with gray or khaki pants
Tuck in white shirt
Sport a brown, braided belt or a gold one
Put on some brown, suede wedges or plaid flats

How would you have restyled this outfit? I'm curious
