Conference Wear

This past Thursday and Friday, we had round two of parent-teacher conferences for the school year.

Since I have tried desperately to avoid showing that I'm "showing," I have had to rethink my  whole wardrobe situation. In the first trimester, I gained only two-four pounds, so that really isn't much. However, on someone as thin as I am, extra weight gain in a particular area is pretty darn obvious, and those extra pounds went nowhere other than my midsection. When I wear leggings and tees around the house, Jeff points at me and yells, "BUMP!" One of my male coworkers actually picked up on the pregnancy because I stopped dressing the way I used to dress, shirts tucked in and pants belted. It's all about looser, untucked tops now. Since I am a terrible liar, if someone sniffed it out like a shark with blood in the water, I answered honestly and sheepishly.

Anyway, I worked with a black and white base by just adding some color. A lot of people complimented the look, which is half-comprised of gifts from other people.

The Look:
Blazer: Mossimo via Target
Flats: Merona via Target
Earrings: New York & Co. (recent--got these bad boys for $6)
Pants: ummm...they're from Motherhood Maternity, and my mom bought them because the pant situation has become awkward, and belly bands do nothing other than ride up on me. I miss my pants already, but I do not enjoy buttons stabbing me in the abdomen.
Shirt: gift from my co-teacher :) It's from Old Navy--I love it!
Necklace: gift from Momma while she was on an RV trip with Dad

This dog is lucky she's cute because she covered my sleeves in mud when she jumped on me.

I have also worn the blazer like this:

  1. This is a great look for conferences! And there is no shame in wearing maternity pants while pregnant, that is literally what they are made for haha. I really like this blouse, but I also think you should show the bump a little love and show it off!

  3. Dressing in the akward early stages when you don't have a real defined bump is the hardest. I hated that stupid belly band. It never worked for me. So excited for you to be a mom. It's the greatest thing ever :)

  4. When a coworker of mine unexpectedly got pregnant and was trying desperately to hide it from her 3rd graders and the staff until the end of the year, I started dressing differently, too, so it wouldn't just be her. Maybe a buddy could do the same for you until you're ready to share? I remember the button pants and things, they hurt! It's really hard to find good maternity pants. I just had to try on lots of styles til I found one that felt right and fit right, and then I bought lots of them. Hope you find some you like!

  5. Man your coworkers are good! This outfit sure hides any baby bump. You still look as tiny as ever!

  6. When you first announced your pregnancy, I went back to your older looks to see if I could spot a bump. I could! But hindsight is 20/20 right? Also, I shook my first at parent/teacher conferences this past Friday. A friend and I played hooky to go shopping because "no one is going to be at the mall on a Friday at noon" and not that many people were. But then we went to Target and there were kids everywhere. w.t.heck. Apparently some schools do conferences during the day? lame.

  7. Girl, I say embrace the bump! Wear those tight shirts and show it off! I love this all black and white look with the pop of color :) And I'm totally going back a few posts to see if I can spot the baby bump too!

  8. My goodness, you are so stinkin' cute! My sister-in-law is due August 1 with their first baby, and we're going shopping together this afternoon for maternity clothing for her. She's a 1st grade teacher so we're looking for things that she can wear to work - I'll have to keep in mind Motherhood Maternity when we hit the Mall of America! :)

I absolutely love that coral blazer on you - you look so fantastic in that color!!
