More tees, please.

Do you ever go on a hunt for more short-sleeved shirts and wonder what's up with the lack of prints? Despite my innate love for polka dots, stripes, and floral, I want some "different" prints. Can you give me a Jackson-Pollock-inspired top (like an "abstract" polka dot shirt)? What about a tee with chevron sleeves while the rest of it is solid colored? What about a pretty pink and white tee with ballerina shoes on it? A light yellow tee with little gray and white polka dotted bows?

Now, blouses and button ups in a zillion prints seem to abound (even ones adorned with fruit exist!), but I find that those aren't as easy to tuck in as a fitted tee is. And, if you've spent any amount of time here, you know I typically prefer to tuck my shirts (this look excluded). Plus, long-sleeved button ups and blouses are impractical for warm weather.

Which brings me to my next request: can someone make me short sleeved button ups? (None of this pullover nonsense; I don't enjoy getting stuck inside of my shirts.) Everything for spring can't possibly be sleeveless or long-sleeved. Sleeveless tops mean those of us in professions where we don't want to show our shoulders are forced to pair a cardigan with every top we wear. Sometimes, it's too blazing hot in our classroom or office to wear a cardigan. Just give me short sleeves, please.

I know I say all of this while donning a polka dot shirt and a leather jacket. In my defense, it was still cool enough to wear another layer.

I'm probably alone in my request, which is why no one is selling more of what I want. Ho hum.

The Look:
Top: Express
Leather Jacket: Wilson's Leather (got it for like $35 on Black Friday)
Jeans: American Eagle
Shoes: Me Too via DSW (a few years old)

  1. Hi there, I'm Mary...first time commenter (maybe? I can't remember) but I've been reading your blog for a few months. First off, I love all of your outfits. Seriously, you're one of my favorites. Anyway, I feel your pain as a fellow teacher, but I would like to tell you to hang in there...short sleeved tops like you describe are bound to come back into style soon. It's been awhile, but they used to be around. I have one short sleeved polka dot bow neck top from Old Navy from 2005 that I've clung to for dear life, along with a few others...anyway, the point is, if it's been 9 years since such things were "in", it's bound to be time for a comeback!

  2. I'm with you on prints, I have a plain white and black tee, but that's it, I would choose a print any day. BTW you look adorable

  3. Too funny. I am starting to work on my closet purge, and I found a few short-sleeve button-ups from The Limited (one pink, two black) and I can't remember the last time I wore them. I'm expecting they're going to end up in the donate pile by the end of the summer. If I had a real job in the summer, I'd probably need them.

  4. I'm with you! I have about every possible color of striped short-sleeve tee, but I don't have many other printed options.

  5. Those are all pretty excellent ideas for printed tees, perhaps you've come up with a business idea! I'd love to have more short sleeve tops for work. I'm pretty sick of wearing all my cute tops with cardigans because they are all sleeveless. Your tee and jacket are pretty perfect together.

  6. It doesn't seem like such a hard thing to make happen does it? The only thing close would be a graphic tee and I'm not really into those. Something cute would be nice. I think you should talk to your new friend Neiman and get him to find some of those tees for you.

I'm loving the outfit you chose! I hadn't realized the leather jacket has adorable little flowers inside! That just makes me love it even more!

  7. Giiiirl, I feel you. My last classroom typically felt like a frozen tundra, but every once in awhile (usually on the day I wore a sweater with no layers to take off), it would be a blazing inferno. My classroom days have actually prepared me for living in San Francisco, where it's hot and sunny one minute and chilly and windy 30 minutes later. :)

  8. I'm with you. I don't understand long sleeves in any material in summer. It's hot. I don't want sleeves. But I also don't always want sleeveless, either. I'm sure you could have some long sleeved shirts made into short sleeves, but what a pain to do that to a bunch of perfectly nice shirts, right?

  9. I totally agree- not enough cute tees! I love all your ideas... I would definitely wear them. Maybe some clothing companies will see this post and get to work. ;) Your leather jacket is awesome- I love the warm camel color.

    xo Always, Abby

  10. Buy long sleeved tops from the clearance rack and have the sleeves cut off and hemmed!

  11. I'm so, so with you on the tee thing - I think that's probably why I only have a handful of tees myself (and almost all of them are just solid colored tees). Graphic tees are okay, but not really my thing (I exhausted the graphic tee in high school and college). Sigh.

  12. Maybe you should start a patterned t-shirt company...because you have a brilliant idea! I'll be in on it, too if you want help :)
